Company Description by Johnson Bros. Roll Forming Co.

Johnson Bros. began when Edwin Johnson, Sr. decided to go into business himself. In 1947, he started constructing the company's first roll forming machine (now in storage) in his basement. He had offered his five brothers and equal share of the business if they matched is life savings, a $700 investment. One brother, Harold Johnson, did; hence the name Johnson Bros.

When the first machine was finished and tested,t had to be disassembled, carried from his basement and reassembled in Edwin's garage. After a few months the neighbors complained about the noise as production of small orders began and Edwin was forced to find new quarters. He found an uninsulated, dirt-floor garage in Chicago that had formerly been a stable. The brothers, Edwin Sr. and Harold, insulated the garage/plant, built a small office and heated the building with a small stove in the cold months.

The nature of Johnson Bros. roll forming has seen an evolution from a lockseam and openseam tubing emphasis, which accelerated More... their growth, to a diversity of shapes for many industrial uses and now to sophisticated computer controlled in-line fabrication. Their forming of all types of metals prefinished or plain, in thickness from .004 in. to .188 in., into many shapes, have virtually gone to every state in the continental U.S., Canada, Mexico and parts of Europe. Sales have grown to seven million with 36 full-time and six part-time employees. Outsourcing has made it difficult for American manufacturers and Johnson Bros. in the last few years but the future now looks very promising. Less

Known for our quality and dependability, Johnson Brothers has been a leader in the roll forming industry since 1948. Our modern, high-tech facility houses more than twenty roll forming machines with up to 28 station capacity and is equipped with servo-driven die accelerators More... and die boosts, allowing us to obtain close tolerance accuracy. We have multiple presses for in-line punching, cut-off, and fabricating, including a cut-to-length ring press that allows us to produce custom-sized rings in one operation, from start to finish. We roll form an extensive range of metals and alloys, and working with pre-finished types and grades is one of our strengths. Along with pre-anodized aluminum, pre-plated and pre-galvanized steel, and polished steel, we work with pre-painted metals as well as sheet and coil with laminated vinyl and pre-embossed strippable PVC finishes. We roll form raw materials measuring from .005” to .188” in thickness to generate parts from .187” to 20.00” wide and up to 36’ in length. With capabilities for in-line and secondary slotting, bending, swaging, grooving, end pointing, deburring, etc., we can create roll-formed parts with simple to complex design features. We can apply adhesives or magnet strips, add rubber or plastic inserts, and clad different materials by forming them together. From small parts to rings, angles, channels, moldings, and just about any custom profile, we can obtain tolerances as close as ±.003 to ±.005 in critical areas. Our quality management system complies with ISO standards, and we use a series of in-line quality checks, statistical process control, and final inspection to ensure parts conform to specifications. We serve customers in hundreds of different industries, making components for solar panels, retail displays, industrial racks and shelving, filters, appliances, and more. Capabilities / Services

J Channel With Prepunched Holes, Slots and Rounded Ends
Often, our modernized inline post fabricating can include many die operations in what used to be only a flying cutoff die operation. Our inline post fabrication dies now can do the entire hole punching and other notching required that in the past was done in the pre-punch operation. This reduces the number of dies required allows closer tolerances on the locations of the notching without the distortion that would occur if fabricated with a pre-punch press and then bent into a J Channel.
Roll Formed Stainless Steel Rings
Manufacturer of standard and custom roll formed metal rings made from steel and stainless steel. Types include decorative, reinforcement, tank, clamp, angle, retainer, steering wheel and backing rings. Available in leg in, leg out, leg right, leg left and also in straight length styles. Plating, anodizing, galvanizing, polishing, painting, strippable PVC coating and other finishing operations offered. Prototypes for large orders can be done.
Prepunch Operations
We offer high-quality custom roll forming services for customers in a range of industries, featuring state of the art inline press punching equipment. Our fabrication methods including inline press fabrication: insertions, swedging, punching, deburring, pointed tube ends, slotting, inline miters and close tolerance cut to length. We produce expert quality low tolerance miniature parts and offer some flat and shaped wire forming techniques and as an option pre-edge rolled stock.
Large Channel
Channels are made from steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, alloys and other materials. Available in finished lengths from 3 in. through 40 ft. long with maximum thickness of 0.150 in. down to 0.005 in. Material widths can be from 15 in. maximum down to 0.375 in. Notching, perforating, embossing and shear forming are inline fabrications offered. Pre-finishing operations include plating, anodizing, painting, and lamination.
Lockseam Tubing
Lockseam tubing is formed from all types of metals either plain or prepainted, galvanized, pre-polished, prelaminated vinyl, pre-anodized, pre-plated, pre-embossed, aluminized, galvannealed, strippable- PVC covered. Inline press fabrications of holes, slots, notching, tabs, shear forms, end fabricating, cut to length, pointing and staking, roll edged ends, flattened ends. Variety of sizes per custom orders.

December 4, 2007 - Johnson Bros. Has the ability to roll form metal parts as an alternative (with lower die costs), to long metal stampings that incur extremely high tooling costs.
