With our custom thermoforming services, Emco Industrial Plastics economically manufactures small to large-sized parts in various configurations. Thermoforming involves the controlled heating of a plastic sheet until it becomes pliable. Using vacuum pressure, the heated More... sheet of plastic is drawn down against a mold to take on its shape. Thermoforming is compatible with a wide range of thermoplastics, and we can build the tooling quickly and relatively inexpensively. Parts exhibit excellent aesthetics, and we can create various patterns, textures, and finishes.Fast and efficient, thermoforming allows for rapid product development, and we can hold dimensional tolerances on parts measuring as large as 10' x 10'. Along with ABS, acrylic, and polycarbonate, we thermoform parts from plastics like PVC, PVDF, etc., in sheets measuring from 0.005" to 0.250" in thickness. During each cycle, we can create a single large part or multiples of smaller pieces. Examples of products we thermoform range from packaging and medical components to lift truck enclosures, construction equipment engine covers, railcar interior trim parts, and more.Along with vacuum forming, we also offer a variation called drape forming. With drape forming, we heat sheets of various thicknesses to a temperature that allows them to be pressed over a mandrel to create the shape without vacuum. Since the sheet is not stretched, the plastic retains a consistent dimensional thickness, and it keeps its surface features post-processing. The tooling is inexpensive, but the process is slow, making it suitable for prototype and start-up projects. We offer thermoforming services for moderate annual volumes. Since we are also a plastics distributor, we keep many different sheet materials in stock to accelerate turnaround times. To learn more about our custom thermoforming operations or to submit an RFQ, contact us directly. Less

Edges are chip-free, and no further treatment is needed if the edges are being engaged. We also offer milled edge finishing, where we run the sheets through a high speed joiner to produce a frosted edge for a contemporary look. For items like tabletops, displays, or frameless acrylic panels with visible edges, we can flame polishing the edges to produce a high luster. Another polishing option is machine and diamond polishing, while for the most elevated quality edges, we sand and polish them to obtain a lustrous museum-quality finish. We also form various edge geometries. We offer full bevel and half bevel edges to soften the edges and make them safer to handle, facilitate mating, or improve wear resistance and aesthetics. Other options include smooth round over edges that curve halfway down and a bullnose that curves from top to bottom. With our range of edge finishing, forming, and polishing options, we provide solutions for any application. To learn more about the various treatments available, or to request a quote, contact us directly. Less
